The Preacher, as King Solomon refers to himself, wrote, in the Book of Ecclesiastes,
The wind blows to the south
and goes around to the north;
around and around goes the wind,
and on its circuits the wind returns. (Ecclesiastes 1:6)
In that verse, he is making reference to the changing seasons. Here in western New York, as I write this, the calendar has declared that spring is indeed here. We have had some nice days, but it seems that winter is trying to rally back. As I drove to church this past Sunday morning I was taken by the contrast of seeing the trees and flowers along Main Street in bloom, but those walking on the sidewalks were dressed in their winter coats, hats, scarves, and mittens as if Christmas shopping.
But we have witnessed this tension between seasons in the past…like, last year. And the year before that. And so on. King Solomon also wrote that there is nothing new under the sun.
So we wait for the better weather, for the spectacular spring summer, and even parts of fall, that we are sure to experience here. And waiting is hard.
There are those of us that may be waiting for a change of season. Not a change of one of the four seasons, but rather a season of life. A season of doubt, perhaps. Or of depression, or anguish, or dissatisfaction. When we find ourselves in that season, waiting is especially hard.
Just as the season that we are currently in, quasi-winter/spring will pass, so too will your season of life. Just as the sun will appear and bring the fullness of the foliage that spring will turn into summer, so to will your personal season change. And, if we let Him, God will provide for us the fullness that His word promises. Let’s let Him. And let’s enjoy every day as it presents.
