Pastor’s Thoughts November 25th, 2024

The thrill of the race track is unlike anything else. The roar of the engines, the precision of every turn, and the determination of each driver to cross the finish line first all reflect the intensity and excitement of the race. As you watch the cars zoom by at incredible speeds, it’s easy to get caught up in the adrenaline and excitement. But beyond the excitement, the race track also offers powerful reminders about our journey of faith and the race we are all running in life.

In many ways, life can feel like a race. We’re often pushing forward at full speed, navigating sharp turns, and trying to stay on track. The Apostle Paul understood this well when he wrote, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize” (1 Corinthians 9:24). But the race we are running as followers of Christ isn’t about being the fastest or the first. It’s about endurance, faithfulness, and staying focused on the ultimate prize—eternity with Jesus.

Just like race car drivers need to stay focused on the road ahead, we are called to fix our eyes on Jesus, who is the “author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). In the chaos of life, it’s easy to get distracted by worries, stress, and setbacks. But when we stay focused on Christ, we find the strength and direction to navigate the twists and turns of life’s journey.

Pit stops are another important part of any race. Even the fastest cars need to pull over, refuel, and receive the support of their team. In our own lives, we often need those “pit stop” moments—times when we pause, rest, and allow God to refuel us. Jesus himself reminded us in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”. Taking time to recharge spiritually ensures that we can keep going and finish the race strong.

The race track also teaches us about perseverance. Every driver faces challenges—whether it’s a mechanical issue, a crash, or a moment where they fall behind. But true champions are those who keep going, no matter the setbacks. Similarly, in our lives, we will face trials and moments of difficulty. But God’s Word promises us in James 1:12, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” No matter how tough the race gets, God is with us, helping us press on toward the finish.

So as the cars speed around the track and the race intensifies, remember that life’s race is about much more than speed. It’s about endurance, faith, and trusting in God to guide you through every turn. And whether you’re ahead or behind, the most important thing is to keep going, knowing that God is your ultimate strength and that the finish line holds the greatest prize of all—life with Him.
